My approach
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy is an attachment-orientated model, rooted in attachment science, and one of the most effective approaches to couples therapy. EFCT is inherently non-blaming and aims to understand the negative relational patterns that have resulted in disconnection and mistrust. EFCT provides a map of how to help couples find their way towards a secure and trusting relationship where they feel confident in their connection.
My goal in couples therapy is to act as a bridge between partners. It is very important that both people in the relationship feel heard, respected and encouraged to share their story.
Couples sessions are 75 minutes in length. During the first session, my focus will be to gain a better understanding of your relationship concerns and your individual viewpoints on it being repaired.
Individual Therapy:
I’m passionate about working with adults who have had childhood experiences of trauma and attachment wounds. I’m informed by Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy which is attachment focused. EFIT explores current and past relationships with the goal of helping individuals come to terms with traumas, current fears, and equip them with the skills they need to have meaningful, lasting relationships.
I also employ Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is an evidence-based treatment that helps to alleviate psychological stress from various forms of trauma and attachment injuries. Memories that are stuck in “trauma-time” can negatively impact our behaviour and beliefs. EMDR reprocesses those memories and aides with adaptation so that they no longer carry the same negative associations.
While on your healing journey, my goal is to help you feel safe and more secure within yourself and in your relationships.
